Police Become Prey won the Audience Choice award

Festival – Calgary filmmaker Candis McLean’s documentary When Police Become Prey won the Audience Choice award at the New Hope Film Festival in Pennsylvania. The documentary investigates allegations against the Saskatoon police regarding so-called Starlight Tours, the alleged practice of police dropping aboriginal people off where they don’t want to be dropped off, often in the dead of a cold winter night. The film was also nominated for a second category, the Artistic Spirit award, requiring artistry in presentation and bravery in tackling the topic. McLean says she received a lot of support from American police officers who face issues similar to the ones she portrayed in the film.
